First off, I’m sorry, in advance.   It’s actually MY FAULT.

2008, I was living in Fredericton.

STJOHNRIVERFLOOD

2013, I was living in Calgary.

CALGARYFLOOD

Here in the Ottawa region, we’re seeing some pretty crazy water levels on the riverbanks…

Now, we’re NOWHERE near the same potential damage… still, it’s a scary time for many if you live near the water, locally, like Christina Hajjar…

CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH:

If you are told to evacuate by ANY agency in the city, or encouraged to do so by ANY type of Authority:

DO IT.

Don’t dawdle.

Don’t say “Nah, we’ll tough it out”.

Make arrangements, call in favours with friends if necessary, and get out, until you’re told it’s safe.

I’ve been around this multiple times, and though lucky (all of the places I lived were safe in the floods mentioned above), I got to see firsthand some of the incredible damage done by Nature’s incredible power.

5.5 Billion in damages in Calgary, And in some places, they’re STILL fixing things from issues that arose, then.

If you’re told to leave: LEAVE.

Pride isn’t worth it.
