Brace yourselves: Sports AND opinions are about to clash, and for that, I’m sorry.

Last night, the Ottawa Senators managed to rally back to tie a game up, drag it into overtime then, thanks to a STELLAR performance by Mike Condon in net during a shootout: Won a CRUCIAL 2 pts on the night, while the Pittsburgh Penguins settled for 1.

We’re in the stretch where quite a large portion of the city wakes up to the fact that our team will (unless something CATASTROPHIC HAPPENS) make the playoffs this year, and compete for the cup.

SO, you’ll see more and more of your co-workers start decorating their offices/cars/faces with facial hair, etc.

THAT big 2pt win in a division that’s a VERY TIGHT RACE, surprisingly, WASN’T the story of the night though.

It was a relatively harmless looking (albeit very poor sportsmanship) slash from Sidney Crosby on Sens #2 D-Man, Marc Methot.

Methot’s from around here, we love him even more, and things like what happened last night crush ya when it happens to a LOCAL boy who works his butt off…

Seeing THIS (warning, after you scroll down, it’s gonna get graphic, don’t say we didn’t warn ya”

METHOTFINGER

Eww.

We were visibly shaken, and pretty darned pissed that Crosby got away with it, scott free.

No penalty.

No disciplinary hearing.

Nothing.

Methot’s out for WEEKS, with a shattered finger, that looks like he fought a table saw and lost…

But NOTHING for Sid the Kid.

If the roles were reversed here, I’d go on record expecting that Methot would be handed a LEAGUE-doled-out suspension for the remainder of the season, probably including the playoffs.

If you’re as Angry about this as I am, feel free to join me in hoping that, in ONE of the rounds (Go Sens Go. I have faith in this team.), they’ll face the Pens and beat them where it counts: On the scoreboard.

Let’s get something straight:

Sidney Crosby is a NATIONAL HERO, and a phenom on the ice.

He should NOT, however, be above the principles of this game.
