Chatting with Rolling Stones’ Brittany Spanos, The Weeknd reveals when fans can expect a new album.  Abel says, “I might have another album ready to go by the time this quarantine is over.”  Abel also suggested that his new music ‘will be different from the music on his After Hours album, “I’m guilty of wanting to outdo my last album, but it’s never like, ‘I’ve got to do the same type of song.’ I’m so happy I’m not like that. My palette is so wide. […] I’m trying to find a perfect balance with the film and the music, and so far it’s going really well. I think I might have cracked the code.”

According to the magazine, “The Weeknd has begun producing some of the new songs he’s written out of a makeshift studio in his condo.”

So what has The Weeknd been up to during the pandemic? Besides ‘going mad’ after being ‘cooped up’ for months, he’s been binge-watching a lot of movies and TV, from I Saw the Devil to Netflix’s Waco, and writing lyrics to accompany the characters and scenes, “I’ll write about their relationship or something in a song.  It might never see the light of day. That’s an exercise. I love doing that.”

And it looks as though music isn’t the only thing on Abel’s mind, he revealing to Rolling Stone that he wants to make films, “I just want to be a filmmaker.  I want to make great cinema.”  This past year, The Weeknd made an appearance in Netflix’s Uncut Gems alongside Adam Sandler, a cameo appearance in Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken, and made a guest appearance and co-wrote an episode of American Dad!
