Brian Yorkey, who is the creator behind the hit series, told EW that, “The producers were strongly driven by the very conceptual hook of the book in the first season, of this mystery and in unfolding the mystery, you get the delve into the secrets that every teenager keeps and the things that affect their life along the way.  We fell in love with these characters and wanted to know what happened next.”

Brian continues, “Our North Star has always been that the inciting incident of the whole series is Hannah’s death and the tapes she leaves behind, and so we want to follow that to its logical conclusion and I think and hope that’s what we do in season four.”
