Seriously.  The staff there appear to be INCREDIBLY well trained.

Today, my wife and I packed our two boys (Liam (4) and Reece (10.5 mos) ) up at around 9 am and popped down the hill to Petrie Island for a quick beach visit.

As it just so happened, today was a big training day for the lifeguards on hand (not sure if it’s multiple sites worth of lifeguards, or if they’re all Petrie-centric.)

They were running simulations of every possible scenario they COULD face, everything from simple “help a freaked out person out of the water”, to immobilization board drills, multi-rescuer deployment and even forming a massive search chain.

As weird as it felt to stay in the water as they’re blasting the whistles and yelling at each other (again, simulation, they told us to just sorta go about our business ;) )… it was one of those amazing feelings where I knew, if SOMETHING had happened… They had our backs.

Kudos, Petrie lifeguards.

Sidenote: The two younger blonde-ish female lifeguards trying to chat up the blonde-speedo dude lifeguard AS “pestering fun seekers”, who suddenly-turned “I CAN’T FIND MY LOST BROTHER“… just an amazing piece of thespianism.

Straight up, felt like I got to watch a movie AND go to the beach today, for $1.35 in parking.
