Johnny Depp to pay $6.8 million to Amber Heard

Wait – what?

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard reached a $7 million settlement regarding this highly publicized and very messy divorce, months ago. Now we’re hearing that Depp will be giving Hear $200 thousand less. So, what’s that all about?

Okay, so it’s not as sketchy as it sounds. The divorce settlement is now finalized between Depp and Heard granting her $6.8 million. Why the lesser amount? Because Depp already donated $200 thousand to her chosen charities: ACLU and Children’s Hospital L.A. in her name.

It will be one year until Heard receives the money, which she’s promised to donate to the aforementioned charities. It will take until 2018 for the total amount to be donated though a number of installments.

The concern with Depp donating Heard’s $7 million settlement directly, in her name, was that he would reap the benefits of a substantial tax write-off. Now that he’s given $200 thousand, he will get that receipt but the rest will be donated through Heard with her receiving the write-off(s).
