Diplo confirmed the rumours of a new Major Lazer track called ‘Cold Water’ with the Justin Bieber back in May on their Lazer Sound Radio show on Beats 1.

The song was co-written by Benny Blanco and Ed Sheeran; Justin clarified that Ed is a writer but he doesn’t appear on the song.

MØ, who is also featured on the track (and is on Major Lazer’s hit ‘Lean On’), spoke to MTV News about the track saying,

“[‘Cold Water’] was a bit different – it’s Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco who were writing it with those guys and Justin Bieber singing it, and then I co-wrote the parts where I sing. We were not all in the studio together. I was in the studio with the Major Lazer team and at that point they already had most of the song written.”

She added, “It’s really good. Actually the first time their people sent it to me I started to cry a little bit because I thought it was so…it’s like so powerful and strong but at the same time it’s like emotional…you can hear the great songwriting in it but at the same time it has the cool vibes of Major Lazer…can I say all these things?”

“I never thought I would be on a song with Justin Bieber – it’s pretty crazy! It’s really awesome. I’m not religious but *looks to the sky* thanks!”

‘Cold Water’ will presumably be the lead single off Major Lazer’s Peace Is The Mission follow-up Peace is the Weapon, which is also expected to feature The Weeknd, Sia, Iggy Azaelea, Travi$ $cott and Gwen Stefani.
